Situated in Central Ningbo, Fenghua district is one of the National advanced tourism districts and top 100 counties (districts and county-level cities) of China. The city covers an area of 1,249 square km, including 96 square km of waterways. With nine towns and two sub-districts under its jurisdiction, it has a population of 488,000.
The district is 15 km away from Lishe Airport and 50 km from Beilun Port. The Tongjiang-Sanya Expressway and Ningbo-Jinhua Expressway run across the whole district providing convenient transportation.
The district is the shrine of Hotei (Maitreya), who was born and parinirvana in the district during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (AD 907-960) period. It’s also the hometown of Chiang Kai-Shek, the former Kuomintang (KMT) leader.
Fenghua is among the 100 Top Counties of the Country in terms of economic and comprehensive strength. Its mainstay industries are garments, machinery, electronics, foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals. The prevalence the garment industry in Fenghua has earned the district the honorary title, "Town of Garments".
Fenghua is also abundant with agricultural resources including honey peach, taro, flowers, bamboo shoots and strawberries. It has become a major aquaculture base, with its aquatic products for sales in Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo as well as Japan and Korea.
Fenghua also boasts beautiful landscapes and historical sites, such as Xikou Scenic Area and Tengtou Eco-tourism Exemplary Area.
