Yuyao, a county-level municipality located in East Zhejiang province, sits on the south bank of the Yangtze River Delta. It is 40km away from downtown Ningbo and 120km away from Hangzhou. To the north rests Hangzhou Bay, to the south sit the Siming Mountains. The city covers a total area of 1,527 sq km with a population of approximately 830,000 residents.
Since the 1980s, the city has seen rapid development in both economic and social sectors. Agriculture, industry and commodity export drive the city’s current economy. Additionally, the city has integrated the local industrial system with various prevalent industries, including electronic and electric appliances machinery and instruments, molds and plastics, refined chemicals, electromechanical products and new materials.
By the end of 2015, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the city reached 8.40 billion yuan ($1.24 billion), an increase of 7.6 percent compared to the previous year, with a per capita GDP of 100,367 yuan. Yuyao’s financial revenue is 13.379 billion yuan, up 8.2 percent over the previous year. The general public budget of 7.51 billion yuan increased by 8.8 percent over the year 2014.
Yuyao enjoys numerous advantages in the commodity import and export trade. Total import/export revenue reached 60.24 billion yuan in 2015, a total of 46.07 billion yuan for exports and 14.17 billion yuan for imports. There are 313 enterprises whose export value exceeds 338.87 billion yuan ($50 billion yuan), and 148 enterprises exceeding 677.72 billion yuan ($100 billion yuan).
Many businessmen, both domestic and foreign, have settled in Yuyao for investment. In 2015, Yuyao approved an additional 53 foreign funded enterprises with a cumulative total investment of 6.46 billion yuan, a 2.4 percent increase compared to the previous year. The investments hail from over 20 countries and regions.
