Established in 1990, the Ningbo Song and Dance Ensemble is a team of 60 professional art school graduates. The ensemble consists of a dance team, folk band, orchestra and artistic dance team, boasting a MIDI studio equipped with advanced facilities. It is a governmental ensemble filled with national first-grade performers, composers, writers and directors.

Since inauguration, the ensemble has taken upon itself the responsibility of developing and promoting Chinese folk art. The Ensemble has produced and staged dance dramas including The Best Views are Here and Passions of Snail Girl, grand dance dramas including Rainbow in Golden Autumn, Chinese Spirit and The Golden Voyage and lute concertos such as Autumn River in Twilight. They also regularly preform instrumental music, songs and dances including Moonlit River in Spring and Dream of Old Days. " The ensemble has also practiced and staged excellent performances of Ode to the Yellow River and The Oasis.

The works or performances staged by the ensemble have won many provincial and municipal awards. The ensemble has previously toured Japan and France, winning them wide acclaim and popularity.
