The construction plan of Ningbo-Zhoushan railway, an important part of Zhejiang's Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan corridor initiative, was recently confirmed. The railway will make it possible to travel from Ningbo to Zhoushan in 30 minutes.

According to the plan, the railway will begin in Beilun district of Ningbo and run to Jintang island, the fourth largest island of the Zhoushan Archipelago. It will then travel on to the main island of Zhoushan.

The line will include an existing railway connecting Ningbo East Station and Baozhuang Station in Ningbo but will otherwise be newly built. It is expected to exceed 50 kilometers.

Wang Xing, an officer of Ningbo's railway construction bureau, said the Ningbo-Zhoushan railway will meet the public's needs for business and tourism.

In addition to passenger transport, the railway will also support freight cargo.

Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2018 and because of technical difficulties when dealing with the trans-sea section, it may take six years to be completed, according to Wang.
