Ningbo, a major manufacturing city in East China's Zhejiang province, is going to promote high-tech exchanges and hunt for more international talents during the 2017 Ningbo Talents, Science and Technology Week from Sept 23 to 28.

This year's Ningbo Talents, Science and Technology Week will have five major sessions and 20 activities in five days, providing various platforms for matchmaking work and wide discussions, according to a news conference on the morning of Sept 22.

There will be matchmaking symposiums for high-caliber talents from home and abroad, trade fairs for advanced high-tech products, competitions for start-ups, field trips for scientists and forums on a wide range of topics. All are aimed at building bridges between professionals and projects, and boosting the commercialization of research findings, said Jin Yan, director of the organizing committee of the talents, science and technology week.

By attracting top global talents, the event will support Ningbo's bid to become an internationally known port city and cement its place in the country's development strategies like Made in China 2025 and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Ningbo has been lifted to an unprecedented position since it was approved by the central government as the first pilot city for implementing the Made in China 2025 strategy in August, 2016. Moreover, it is playing a leading role in the country's cross-border e-commerce and insurance innovation sectors. Ensuring a rich and steady talent pool is one of the basic pre-conditions for Ningbo's future strides in fulfillment of its national roles.

The Ningbo human resources bureau just released a document on the city's orientation of talent recruitment, providing them with more knowledge about Ningbo's job market. This year, talents in new materials, information technology, home appliances, biomedicine, port logistics and automobile manufacturing are in high demand.

According to the organizing committee, it is anticipated that more than 20,000 talents including 200 overseas professionals and over 10,000 students from domestic key universities will attend the event looking for job opportunities. Around 20 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering are expected to give suggestions and advice about Ningbo's development.

To create an attractive environment for the talents, Ningbo also plans to release more preferential policies in housing, healthcare and funding to ensure their satisfaction with their life and work in the city.

First held in 2006, the annual Ningbo Talents, Science and Technology Week plays a vital role in supporting Ningbo's talent-attraction work.

More than 320,000 professionals from over 30 countries and regions have taken part in the event. Over the past 11 years, over 26,000 high-end individuals were recruited, 220 research branches and offices were set up and 260 cooperative agreements worth 13.2 billion yuan ($2 billion) were signed at the events.
