Ningbo-Zhoushan Port transported a total of 771 million metric tons of cargos and 18.765 million TEUs in the first three quarters of 2017, up by 10.8 percent and 14.2 percent year-on-year respectively, according to a report from Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group Co on Oct 12.

This year, the port maintained a steady increase in its transportation capacity primarily due to the entire country's growing imports and exports.

By deepening the ties with three major global container carrier alliances - 2M, OCEAN Alliance and THE Alliance, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port is strengthening the connection with countries involved in the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. In the past nine months, the port has opened nine new shipping routes, while the total amount has reached 241.

The freight trains linking the port and inland cities also boost the port development. The combination of different transport systems, especially rail and shipping, makes it possible to transport more containers and cargos to Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. The number of TEUs that have been transported by railway and shipping was 292,000 from January to September, up by 69.5 percent from a year earlier.
