Seven international students have begun master's studies at Ningbo Supply Chain Innovation Institute China (NSCIIC) in Zhejiang province, local media reported on Feb 7.

The students from Spain, India, the United States and Panama constitute the first class of international students to join NSCIIC, an exclusive education and research institution established by the Ningbo government and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2016.

The institute's unique 3 Continents (3C) program sees students partake in courses focused on logistics and supply chains in Spain, the US and China over a 10-month period. The program prepares graduates to navigate the competitive commercial landscape and understand the rapid evolution brought about by globalization.

In Ningbo, students will undertake a curriculum modeled on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that includes supply chain design, global supply chain management and four-month strategy and planning.

To enrich the foreign students' experience, NSCIIC also provides a series of tailored programs teaching Chinese language and culture, and arranges field visits to local companies.

As the first supply chain institute in the country, NSCIIC aims to lead in both education and innovation of global supply chains while providing high-quality talent for the Chinese market.

"The innovation and application of supply chains receive strong support from the Chinese government," said Lourdes, a student from Spain. "Ningbo is home to Zhoushan Port, whose annual cargo traffic is about 1 billion tons. What I want to discover is how people here manage that amount of cargo."

Liu Shaoxuan, NSCIIC director, sees the international students' enrollment as evidence of the institute's global scope and agenda. Liu said that he hopes to see more Chinese students enroll in the program.
