A delegation of nearly 80 representatives of cross-Straits network media visited Ningbo from Oct 29 to 30 to report on the economic and social achievements of the city over the 40 years since China's reform and opening-up.

Places they visited included Tianyige Library, the oldest existing library in Asia, Xuedou Mountain, one of China's top five Buddhist mountains, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, the world's largest port in cargo throughput, as well as the cross-Straits youth start-up base, University of Nottingham Ningbo, and Wandi village.

Media representatives from Taiwan were impressed by the Xuedou Mountain and the profound Buddhist culture embodied in it, promising to introduce it to Taiwan citizens through the network, and boost cross-Straits cultural exchanges. 

The delegation also talked with five Taiwan entrepreneurs at the cross-Straits youth start-up base in Yinzhou district to learn their stories, and listened to Yueh-Lung Lin, a Taiwan teacher at the University of Nottingham Ningbo who shared his experiences in the city. 

"Ningbo is a city full of kindness and vitality. I will live in Ningbo for a long time and I recommend Taiwan citizens to seek opportunities here," said Lin. 

Chen Guojun, governor of Yinzhou district, Ningbo, introduced the achievements of the district over the 40 years, and hoped that the cross-Straits media representatives would promote the district to the outside and drive the exchanges between the district and Taiwan. 

Wu Zumei, Party chief of Wandi village in the district, described how the village developed from an agricultural one to an industrial one and to a village now driven by the service industry, which aroused the delegation's interest in its business types, models and revenue. 

The visit is part of the first Cross-Straits Media Mainland Tour organized by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, which is aimed at reporting the development achievements of the Chinese mainland over the 40 years since China's reform and opening-up, as well as stories of cross-Straits cooperation during the period. 

The media delegation started the tour on Oct 18 in Beijing, and visited Tianjin, Shanghai, and Kunshan before coming to Ningbo. It will head for Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen in the following days until Nov 2.
