Fan Xuefeng, a senior electric worker from Ningbo, secured a gold award for his "Optical Fiber Core Remote Switch Robot" at Germany's 70th Nuremberg international invention exhibition IENA on Nov 4. 

It was also granted a special award from the International Federation of Inventors Associations (IFIA), being the only Chinese technology product that has ever received a special award from IFIA. 

The product is based on an optical fiber core remote switch device that Fan has started developing in 2009, which can shorten the cable connection time from previously at least four hours to just five minutes when an optical cable failure occurs, by means of remote control, saving much time and energy. 

The technology has completed patent filing in multiple overseas countries such as Germany, Japan and the United States, and has been broadly applied by many domestic regions in power supply, laying a foundation for the invention of the "Optical Fiber Core Remote Switch Robot".

The Ningbo Power Supply Company of Zhejiang Electric Power Company of State Grid Corporation of China, where Fan works, is on its way to promoting the technology to the world, and endeavors to develop it into a globally-leading industry.

IENA is one of the world's most renowned international invention exhibitions with the longest history and most strict appraisal standard. Altogether 20 countries and regions brought over 700 inventions to the exhibition, ranging from artificial intelligence, environment-protection, medicine to advanced manufacturing. 

China Association of Inventions (CAI) brought 42 inventions, and won 14 gold awards.
