A Sino-Ukraine technology research institute focusing on the new material industry was launched in Zhenhai district, Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, on Dec 18.

It took only 47 days for the institute to finally settle in Ningbo, after the agreement was inked on Oct 30.

The Ningbo Sino-Ukrainian New Material Industrial Technological Institute is expected to see one production-training integration center and seven applied engineering research centers built within three to five years.

Meanwhile, five to six Ukrainian academicians and ten innovation teams led by high-profile professionals will be introduced to help cultivate 50 innovative startups in the new material sector.

It is hoped that the institute will be a pilot zone in the district for new material R&D and application by 2030, as well as a hub for high-profile professionals and technology innovation.

The launch ceremony also saw the signing of two major projects for the institute, one for building an aeronautical composite research center (China) and the other for producing a special carbon nanotube rubber.

The former project, inked between the institute and the national defense industrial company of Ukraine, will help drive the development of the nation's aircraft engines and gas turbines.

The latter one, signed between the institute and the Ningbo Taikewei Rubber Technology Co, is based on an important achievement from the team led by Yurii Sementsov, a senior researcher from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which is expected to generate an output of 100 million yuan ($14.5 million) by 2019 and 400 million yuan by 2020.
