Sun Yifan, a student from Zhenhai High School in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province was recently selected to compete on behalf of China in the 50th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) to be held in Tel Aviv, Israel from July 7 to 15, together with four other Chinese students.

Sun was the only student in Zhejiang to have won the qualification for IPhO, one of the world's most influential physics competitions for high school students.

Sun also scored the highest points in the 35th National Physics Contest for High School Students last year and was selected into the national team for IPhO.

Zhenhai High School has performed excellently in physics competitions recent years, with Wang Dingli winning the gold medal at the 19th Asian Physics Olympiads last year, being the only one in the province to have won the medal.

At the 35th National Physics Contest for High School Students, 19 students seized the first prize at the provincial level, three of whom bagged a gold medal in the final and two of whom made it to the national team, including Sun.
