The winners of an international urban furniture design competition were selected and announced on Jan 30 in Ningbo Hangzhou Bay New Zone, Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province.

Urban furniture is a new concept that has been popular in recent years, which refers to all kinds of outdoor facilities in cities, such as telephone booths, trash boxes, bus stops and urban sculptures. 

The 2018 Hangzhou Bay International Creative Design Contest of Urban Furniture (Ningbo, China), hosted by the administrative committee of the development and construction of the zone, started last November and collected 546 works from 42 design agencies, 68 universities and colleges in 38 cities in the world.

Altogether 137 works made into the final and 52 of them won awards, including two first-prize, four second-prize and 10 third prize winners. 

Judges include Professor Liu Guanzhong from Tsinghua University, a leading figure in China's industrial design field who is known as the "Father of China's industrial design". 

Liu also delivered a speech about the relationship between man and city at the award ceremony, claiming that a city should make every one living in it feel comfortable and happy.

According to the organizing committee, the competition is held to improve the infrastructure construction of the zone by soliciting creative designs from the public, so as to build the zone into a dream urban area for people to live in.

All the awarded works will be exhibited in the zone during March and April.
