Ningbo's famous dance opera Mulan will be staged on March 9 at the Xiangshan Movie & TV Town, an outdoor film studio in Xiangshan county, Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province.

The opera is co-produced by the Ningbo Performing Arts Group, China National Opera House and the government of Huangpo district, Wuhan city, and choreographed by the Ningbo Performing Arts Group.

It is based on the story of Hua Mulan, a legendary Chinese heroine in the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-581) who fought in the war in place of her aged father. 

The activity is a meaningful attempt of the Ningbo Performing Arts Group and the Xiangshan Movie & TV Town in jointly exploring the integration of culture and tourism, promoting traditional Chinese culture and boosting local tourism.

A dance teaching activity given by the performers will also be given on the day. 

Having been performed in Beijing, Sichuan, Guangdong and other places throughout the country, it has proved popular among audiences and received high recognition from Chinese dance circles. It was also performed to foreign guests during the fourth World Internet Conference in Wuzhen in December 2017.

The opera won the 11th Lotus Award last December, the highest honor in Chinese dance circles.
