Jiangbei district in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province recently released a three year action plan to boost its digital economy, local media reported on March 15.

According to the plan, the district aims to develop itself into the city's innovation demonstration zone of the internet of things (IoT) by 2021, with its digital economy accounting for 50 percent of the district's GDP.

Specifically, it will focus on developing the digital industry, promoting the digitalization of traditional industries, accelerating the development of an intelligent city and improving its infrastructure system.

It aims to realize its output of the industrial IoT industry reaching 12 billion yuan ($1.79 million) by 2021, and that of the new materials industry and intelligent equipment industry hitting 35 billion yuan and 30 billion yuan, respectively.

Jiangbei district has made significant achievements in the digital economy over the past year, with over 2,000 local companies using cloud computing services last year, ranking first in the city by company type. Its industrial IoT park was listed as one of the city's model industrial parks.

It also inked an agreement with Tencent Cloud, a cloud computing service brand of Tencent, one of the largest internet companies in China, in late February to build a cloud service base, an experimental zone of the industrial IoT, and a high-tech lab in the district.
