A maritime law institute co-established by the Ningbo Maritime Court and the Dalian Maritime University was launched on April 28 at the court in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province.

The institute, known as the East China Sea Maritime Law Institute, will leverage the university's academic and research strength in maritime law to aid in relevant court cases in the city and the province.

Dalian Maritime University, located in Dalian, North China's Liaoning province, is renowned in China for its prestigious maritime education program. It is number one in China in terms of the number of students majoring in navigation.

The Ningbo Maritime Court is among the top courts in China in terms of the number of cases it handles and the quality of case settlement. It is China's first pilot maritime criminal court, and has set up the nation's first maritime administrative dispute mediation center.

Both the school and the court will play their parts developing the institute. Dalian Maritime University will be responsible for conducting theoretical research on maritime judicial adjudication, providing legal counseling and organizing seminars and forums on maritime law.

Ningbo Maritime Court will provide internship opportunities for law majors from the university and help them find employment in Ningbo and Zhejiang province.
