The provincial government of Zhejiang recently approved a plan to create a demonstration zone for marine economic development in Ningbo, local media reported on July 18.

According to the plan, the zone will cover an area of 149 square kilometers, with the aim of promoting the modern marine industry, R&D of high-end marine technology and sustainable development of the maritime sector.

Specifically, the zone will focus on developing marine engineering equipment, intelligent marine technology, ocean tourism, the fishing industry and marine bio-pharmacy.

Local authorities said they will push forward the construction of the zone to make it one of the top demonstration zones in the country.
