A week-long performance featuring the pipa, a Chinese four-stringed lute, will be staged in Ningbo from Aug 13 to 19, according to a news conference held on July 26.

This event will show how the pipa has developed in recent years, as well as how pipa performers are being discovered and trained, said Wang Hong, an organizer of the event and deputy secretary general of the Chinese Musicians' Association, at the conference.

Two hundred musicians from all over the country, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, will perform for audiences. In addition, there will be a series of pipa-related activities, including concerts, training sessions and seminars.

Wang pointed out that one of the major reasons for the event being held in Ningbo is the city's contribution to the promotion of the instrument.

Ningbo has been dedicated to the development of music, especially pipa, in recent years. According to statistics, the city has 46 pipa clubs, and there are over 100 pipa instructors and 20,000 learners.
