Ningbo -- in eastern Zhejiang province -- ranked fifth among major cities in the Yangtze River Delta in terms of the digital economic development, a recent report said.

The 2019 Yangtze River Delta Digital Economy Index Report, jointly compiled by the research institute of 21 Jingji.com and AliResearch, a research arm of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, measured the digital economic development levels of 27 major cities in the region.

The rankings were primarily based on sub-indexes tracking digital infrastructure, digital commerce, the digital industry, digital governance and digital livelihood services.

Hangzhou and Shanghai, with readings of 83 and 74 respectively, seized the first two places, followed by Suzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Jinhua and Hefei.

Ningbo placed first place with regards to city transportation health conditions, while it ranked second in terms of digital governance.

The city rolled out a plan to promote smart transport as early as 2012. Now it is working on optimizing transport services and management with new-generation digital technologies.

Meanwhile, Ningbo is also spearheading the promotion of digital technology in governance.

Currently, a data sharing system has been established in Ningbo, covering 30 municipal departments and 10 counties.

The city aims to make sure that all its administrative services will be accessible online by year-end, a local official revealed.
