A driverless sightseeing bus utilizing 5G network was put into use in Xiangshan county of Ningbo on Oct 7, local media reported.

The vehicle, shaped like a giant panda, comes as part of the province's efforts to step up the commercialization of 5G in the province's transportation system.

The vehicle has a maximum speed of roughly 10 kilometers per hour and is able to seat up to eight people. Based on technologies such as the Internet of Things and 5G, it is able to navigate, avoid obstacles and park automatically.

The pure electric vehicle was designed and manufactured by Guangxi Automobile Co and comes equipped with an unmanned pilot system developed by Ningbo Bangbianshan Investment Co, China Telecom and Huawei.

With the advancement of 5G infrastructure construction in Ningbo, experts predict that self-driving sightseeing cars equipped with 5G technologies will begin appearing in more and more scenic spots around the city.
