Ningbo ranked as the 90th most competitive city in the world, up 11 places from last year, according to a report released on Nov 12.

This marks the first time that the city in East China's Zhejiang province has made the top 100 list, according to the Global City Competitiveness Report (2019-2020) jointly compiled by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT).

The report was unveiled at a new urban development seminar held in Ningbo.

First published in 2010, the report measures the competitiveness of 1,007 cities around the world which have a population of over 500,000. The report gauges economic competitiveness and sustainability.

This year, the top three slots went to New York, London, and Singapore respectively.

Notably, a total of 20 Chinese cities ranked among the top 100, five of which placed in the top 20, namely Shenzhen (fourth), Shanghai (10th), Hong Kong (13th), Beijing (17th) and Guangzhou (18th).

In addition to Ningbo, one other city from Zhejiang made the top 100 – the provincial capital of Hangzhou, which ranked 64th.
