Paintings by more than 30 children from Ningbo were selected as winners at an international art competition in Shanghai.

The art contest is part of the China Shanghai International Children's Book Fair (CCBF), held from Nov 15 to 17.

Launched in 2013, CCBF has since become an influential event in the global publishing industry. It is the only fair in the Asia Pacific which focuses exclusively on books and other contents for children aged 16 and below.

Participants of the contest must be below 16 years of age, and submitted entries should be in line with the theme "beauty in my eyes".

According to Shanghai Xinhua Publishing Group, the event's organizer, the annual contest is designed to provide an international stage for artistic education and exchange.

A total of 1,216 works by children from countries including China, Czech Republic, Germany and Japan were submitted as of Oct 8.

A panel of judges composed of heavyweight artists from Czech Republic, China and South Korea chose 146 works from among the entries, which will be published in albums for exhibition across the world, the organizer said.

Yin Yu, an 11-year-old girl from Ningbo, was among the winners.

Yin's mother told reporters that her daughter has been learning to paint for five to six years and were intrigued by the contest's theme.

"There are so many beautiful things in life. We just need to give children the chance to discover them."
