Ningbo recently unveiled a development plan for its Qianwan New District, according to local media reports.
Covering 604 square kilometers, Qianwan New District, established in July, encompasses three parts: Hangzhou bay industrial accumulative zone (353.2 sq km), part of Yuyao district (106.6 sq km) and part of Cixi county (144.2 sq km).
According to the plan, by 2035 Ningbo aims to build the district into a world-leading manufacturing base and a demonstration zone in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
It will focus on developing six high-tech industries: automobile manufacturing, high-end equipment, life and health, new materials, electronic information and modern services.
A high-speed transport network will operate in Qianwan, allowing passengers from the district to reach Hangzhou and Shanghai in half an hour and get to the other provincial capitals in the delta in two hours.
The district will also promote a green, low-carbon city operation mode, building itself into an "ecological lung" on the southern bank of Hangzhou Bay.
By 2015, Qianwan's GDP is targeted to be 130 billion yuan ($18.5 billion).
The output of high-tech industries in the district will account for more than 55 percent of the total industrial added value above designated size, and spending on research and development will make up more than 3.5 percent of total GDP.
By 2035, innovation will become the primary driving force for economic development in the area, with technologies including big data, artificial intelligence and the internet of things highly integrated with the real economy.
