The sea-rail combined transport business volume of Ningbo-Zhoushan port surpassed 800,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2019, a yearly uptick of over 33.3 percent, official data shows.

The port ranked second nationwide in terms of sea-rail combined transport business volume, behind only Qingdao port.

The goods are first loaded on trains to Ningbo and then transported to overseas countries by sea, and vice versa.

Currently, the services cover 50 cities in 15 provinces and municipalities across the nation.

Three trips per day are made via the lines connecting the port with Yiwu, the world's top wholesale market for small commodities, transporting more than 10,000 containers per month.

In addition, the port has also launched a cold-chain sea-rail business which now serves Chengdu, Sichuan province and Zhengzhou, Henan province.

As of Dec 23 last year, the container throughput of Ningbo Zhoushan port had surpassed 27 million TEUs, the highest on record for the port.
