Ningbo's largest fruit wholesale market opens doors

The Ningbo Fruit Wholesale Market, the largest of its kind in the city, opened its doors on Jan 12, according to local media reports.

The new market, which cost 628 million yuan ($93.7 million) to build, is located in Dongqiao town in Haisu district.

The market has expanded from 80 to 186 mu (12.4 hectares) and now accommodates 283 vendors.

Wholesale transactions of fruit in the market's domestic trade zone reached nearly 35,000 tons, a value of 150 million yuan, during trial operations from November 2019 to Jan 7, official data shows.

The market is now home to eight vendors of imported fruits, compared to three for the original market.

The price of imported fruit at the market is 10-15 percent lower on average than before. The market is open from 5 am to 2pm.
