Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province kicked off a cloud recruitment week targeting skilled professionals on Feb 24.

Cloud recruitment refers to the practice of conducting job interviews online with some jobseekers even starting to work online immediately after.

According to preliminary statistics, the online job fair has offered 2,000 jobs with annual salaries ranging from 150,000 yuan ($22,388) to more than 1,000,000 yuan.

Many local industrial technology research institutes and universities are searching for high profile talents through the event.

The Ningbo Institute of Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is looking for 300 experts with post-doctorate degree or high vocational titles. The University of Ningbo is also hunting for 200 doctor graduates from across the world.

The job fair has also set up three categories of online video streaming for the first time, which will help jobseekers get to know employers and local preferential policies as well as provide them with consultation services for career development.

Jobseekers from outside the city who take jobs via the online job fair will receive a maximum of 800 yuan in transportation subsidies. For those from overseas, the figure will be capped at 6,000 yuan.

The government will also provide up to one million yuan to employees who decide to take up residence in Ningbo.

The online job fair will be held twice a week in March and once a month afterwards.

Ningbo reported 340,000 new permanent residents in 2019, more than the total of the previous two years, making it a popular choice for professionals seeking work, said an official from the Ningbo municipal office of talents.

A communiqué released by the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Statistics showed that the city has a permanent resident population of 8.542 million, the third largest in Zhejiang, as of the end of last year.
