Ningbo foreign students express solidarity and support for China
Foreign students studying at Ningbo Huamao International School filmed a video expressing their solidarity and support for China amid the novel coronavirus epidemic.
The students come from countries such as South Korea, Canada, Uzbekistan, Thailand and South Africa.
For Jeon Si-hyun, a student from South Korea, the prolonged winter vacation was unique.
She stayed with her parents in Ningbo for the Spring Festival holiday this year. They opted to stay after the sudden pneumonia outbreak, which terrified them in the beginning.
"But we believed in the anti-epidemic work being done by the Chinese government," the girl explained.
A string of measures taken by different levels of governments in the nation to cope with the epidemic made her feel safe, she said, citing the health QR code system and temperature monitoring as examples.
"Only those holding a green QR code are allowed to enter the residential community, and people visiting any public venues are urged to have their temperatures taken," said Jeon.
A green code indicates the holder has little possibility of being infected with the virus.
She added that she has full confidence in triumphing over the epidemic, as all people at different walks of life in China are contributing to the anti-virus battle.
Holding a painting with supportive slogans in both Chinese and Korean, Jeon voiced her support for China.
"My father bought 300 masks from South Korea and donated them to factories in China when the epidemic started; Now, the epidemic is spreading in South Korea, and the Chinese government and people have donated supplies to my country."
Several students who returned to their home countries have also showed their concern and support for China.
Kim Dai-hyun returned to his home in Busan, South Korea at the beginning of the winter holiday. He said that he has been keeping a close eye on China's situation since the onset of the pneumonia.
"Ningbo has long been my 'second hometown', I’m concerned about my friends and teachers there."
Recently Busan also reported cases of patients confirmed to be infected with novel coronavirus pneumonia.
Kim was contacted by many of his Chinese friends and teachers, who expressed their concern for his safety.
Using his broken Chinese, Kim expressed hope that South Korea and China can work together to defeat the virus.
Zou Haibo (Chinese name), a student from Thailand, is also staying tuned into the global situation of the epidemic.
Zou was impressed by China's anti-epidemic efforts, specifically the speedy construction of Leishenshan Mountain Hospital and other temporary cabin hospitals.
Ye Bin, president of Ningbo Huamao International School, said there are nearly 100 foreign students in the school, including those born after 2000 and 2010.
