Ningbo spearheads rural vitalization in Zhejiang

Ningbo is leading Zhejiang in rural vitalization.

The city scored the highest among cities in Zhejiang in an evaluation conducted by the provincial government looking at the implementation of the rural vitalization strategy.

Official data show the added value of the city's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery charted an increase of 2.6 percent year on year to reach 33.47 billion yuan ($4.85 billion) in 2019, ranking first in the province.

The per capita disposable income of its rural residents stood at 36,632 yuan last year, representing an uptick of 8.9 percent.

The income gap between urban and rural residents in the city declined for the 16th consecutive year to a ratio of 1.77: 1.

The average economic income of villages in Ningbo surpassed 300,000 yuan last year.

The city achieved a score of 90.32 points in the comprehensive agricultural modernization level, ranking second in Zhejiang, which indicates that the city has basically achieved agricultural modernization.

In addition to the robust growth of agricultural industries, Ningbo has also showed strong results in improving the environment in rural areas.

The city has launched a series of campaigns to promote garbage sorting, sewage treatment and toilet renovations in villages across the city.

A total of 274 villages had been transformed into A-level scenic attractions by the end of last year.

The city's Yinzhou district and Xiangshan county have been designated national pilot demonstration areas for rural governance system reform.

The city’s contracted land turnover rate and operation rate both topped 69.7 percent in 2019, ranking first in the province.

The reform on rural houses revitalized more than 60,000 idle rural houses, attracting 1.56 billion yuan in investment.
