A total of 28 postdoctoral workstations were set up in Ningbo in 2019, accounting for 20.5 percent of the total in Zhejiang province.

The city now ranks first in the province in terms of the total number of postdoctoral workstations, overtaking Hangzhou for the first time, according to Zhejiang provincial department of human resources and social security.

Currently, Ningbo is home to 189 postdoctoral stations. In 2019 alone, the city attracted 1,017 professionals holding a doctor's degree or above, bringing the total number in the city to 7,893.

The city's increasing attractiveness to premium talents comes down to a combination of factors, such as the city's congenial business climate and preferential policies.

The amount of subsidies provided for setting up postdoctoral stations in Ningbo has been increased to a maximum of one million yuan($144,927.5), while the number for professionals holding a doctor's degree or above is capped at 300,000 yuan.

These high-caliber professionals have also fueled the development of local enterprises.

One such example is Doctor Yuan Shizhao from the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences who has helped Risen Energy Co Ltd develop batteries which are equally as efficient as but less costly that those in developed countries.

With the assistance of Doctor Fang Liang and Doctor Shen Min, Ningbo Medical System Co Ltd acquired 15 patents in the vitro diagnosis field, generating 400 million yuan in revenue.
