Digital economy gains ground in Ningbo

The digital economy is developing rapidly in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province. 

In 2019, roughly 3,000 5G base stations were established in the city.

In addition, a data-sharing platform collecting 3.5 billion pieces of data from 49 government departments has been set up, allowing local residents to handle 99.57 percent of administrative applications online.

In late 2019, the city partnered with Huawei Technologies, China's largest smartphone maker and a 5G leader, to build a strong computing ecosystem in the city based on the Kunpeng chipset.

On March 13, local authorities rolled out guidelines to promote the development of emerging industries like industrial internet, 5G+, and smart logistics. 

On March 15, Zhejiang DTCT Data & Technology Co Ltd partnered with the city to explore big data operations and maintenance. 

On April 1, Ningbo Joyson Electronic Corp signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation with Microsoft. The two parties will strengthen cooperation in cloud applications for the automotive industry, intelligent voice, and modern collaborative offices. 

On April 2, a big data industrial base was established in the Ningbo Software Park.

Ningbo is now undergoing full industrial digital transformation. 

Around 7,000 enterprises in the city have been promoting intelligent technological transformation. This is more than 82 percent of all industrial enterprises above the designated size in the city. 

According to the local government's action plan, the city aims to construct another 100 smart factories over the next three years. 

By 2022, the municipal government hopes that revenue from the industrial software industry (including embedded software) will reach 50 billion yuan ($7.24 billion)and the output value of the city’s smart manufacturing equipment cluster will reach 120 billion yuan.
