Ningbo will launch a campaign to stimulate consumption and hedge downward pressures brought about by the novel coronavirus outbreak, according to a government press conference on April 15.

The campaign, scheduled to be held from April 17 to May 17, will see local government coordinate with merchants to spur consumption by offering coupons, discounts and lucky draws.

To date, more than 70 commercial complexes composed of over 10,000 shops have confirmed that they will participate in the campaign by offering sizable discounts to customers.

The local government will issue coupons with a cumulative value of 30 million yuan ($4.34 million) for catering, tourism, and some other sectors during the campaign.

Holders of the coupons will save up to 50 yuan on the condition that they spend at least 200 yuan. The coupons are available on digital payment platforms including Alipay and UnionPay and are valid for seven days.

The coupons will be released in four installments at 10:00 am on April 17, April 24, May 1 and May 8.

In addition, customers who spend more than 200 yuan can also take part in a random lottery.

More than 10-million-yuan worth of prizes will be distributed during the campaign, including a 20-year use right for 100 Geely branded cars, 200 Huawei flagship mobile phones and 2,000 pieces of bedding, as well as 20,000 homestay vouchers worth 50 yuan each.
