Zheng Shanjie, Party chief of Ningbo, recently promoted the city to world talent while addressing a launch ceremony to mark the second Talent Day on April 19.

The event, first held in 2019, is part of the city's efforts to attract talent from around the world.

This year, around 33 activities will be held across Ningbo to showcase the city's development prospects and the opportunities it has to offer for high-level talent.

Zheng focused on three aspects of the city's development. First was the city's robust economic development and congenial business climate.

Ningbo's gross domestic product (GDP) totaled 1.1985 trillion yuan ($173.69 billion) in 2019, moving up three spots year-on-year to 12th nationwide.

The city ranks first in Zhejiang in terms of both total industrial output value and industrial added value.

Its total industrial output value exceeded 2.1 trillion yuan last year, while the figure for industrial added value was more than 500 billion yuan.

The number of manufacturing enterprises in the city, which take up the largest share of respective niche markets nationwide, has climbed to 39, the most of any city in China.

In a survey organized by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce last year, the city's satisfaction level among enterprises towards business environment ranked 3rd in China.

According to a report released by China University of Political Science and Law, the development level of law-based government in Ningbo has ranked among the top 10 large and medium-sized cities in the country for three consecutive years.

The city's actual use of foreign investment soared 20 percent last year, and a total of 63 Global 500 enterprises had a business presence in the city.

Ningbo's superior business environment, advantageous geographical location and solid industrial foundation has made it a hub for development, Zheng said, adding that the city will become more attractive as a place for investment in the face of mounting pressure on the global economy.

The second aspect that Zheng focused on was the high level of happiness among local residents, which has made the city a popular destination for talent.

In 2019, the city made the list of the top 10 happiest cities in China, the 10th year in a row that the city has won the award.

Ningbo ranked second in the country in terms of the net inflow of talent and first in terms of talent in the manufacturing industry.

Finally, Zheng discussed the city's strong development prospects, which include its plans to integrate into the Yangtze River Delta region as well as ambitions to develop several world-class industrial clusters.
