An innovation center designed to attract overseas engineers in the high-end equipment sector opened in Beilun district, Ningbo on April 19.

Beilun, as a national demonstration area for the implementation of innovation resources from overseas, has established partnerships with 9,500 foreign experts from 54 countries and regions around the world, including the US, Russia, and Japan.

Roughly 500 foreign experts come to work in the district every year.

They have helped local enterprises achieve 600 technical breakthroughs and develop more than 500 new products to date.

The equipment manufacturing industry accounts for more than 40 percent of the industrial output in Beilun, the highest percentage of any district in Ningbo.

Local authorities plan to develop the newly established innovation center into a service platform for overseas engineers in an effort to accelerate the sector's growth.

According to recent government guidelines, overseas engineers can receive up to one millon yuan ($144,927.5) in subsidies from the local government.

Financial support will also be available to help them pursue technological innovation and promote the commercialization of achievements.
