10 things on gov't agenda to improve people's livelihoods

Ningbo plans to take the following 10 measures to improve people's livelihoods in 2020. The measures involve clothing, food, housing, transportation, elderly care, education, employment, public security, and infrastructure upgrading. 

The top 10 measures were based on votes by deputies to the 5th session of the 15th Ningbo National people's Congress on April 29. 

First, the city will upgrade or expand 60 primary and secondary schools and kindergartens, among which 44 are scheduled to finish construction within the year. The schools have a total floor space of 400,000 square meters. 

Second, it aims to create 160,000 new urban jobs and provide vocational training for 180,000 people. 

Third, it will complete renovations on three million square meters of old residential communities in urban areas. 

Fourth, efforts will be made to raise drinking water standards for 205,000 farmers and make tap water available in all rural areas.

Fifth, the government will provide safety and firefighting training for one million people. 

Sixth, 180,000 residents aged over 70 will be offered flu vaccinations free of charge, and a total of 46 home-based elderly care service centers are also set to be established within the year. 

Seventh, it will rebuild 100 kilometers of rural road and strengthen maintenance efforts. 

Eighth, it will carry out a series of demonstration projects for household garbage sorting. By the end of the year, the new garbage sorting system will cover 85 percent of the city’s rural areas. 

Ninth, the city will build 40 food markets above the three-star level. Over 90 percent of the markets in urban areas are expected to be above the two-star level by the end of 2020, while more than 90 percent in rural areas are expected to be above the one-star level. 

Tenth, a total of 170 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) will be installed in public areas throughout the city and 10,000 ambulance workers will be cultivated.
