Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province experienced a tourism boom during the May Day holiday, as the novel coronavirus outbreak subsides.

As of 16:00 pm May 5, the five-day holiday saw 2.629 million trips made in the city, generating more than 237 million yuan in revenue for travel operators, according to the Ningbo municipal bureau of culture, radio, film and tourism.

Scenic rural tours were among the top choices for visitors.

Ningbo launched a rural tourism festival featuring more than 200 activities to attract tourists to its rural scenic spots.

In the past five days, the city's rural tourist spots received nearly 2.08 million tourists, bringing in over 150 million yuan in revenue.

More than 80 percent of rooms at 200 boutique homestays in rural areas were booked, a number consistent with the same period last year.

Some high-grade homestays were overbooked despite an average price of more than 1300 yuan per night.

Meanwhile, the city's major scenic spots saw a total ticket revenue of more than 18 million yuan over the holiday, official data show.

COVID-19 control and prevention remain the priorities in Ningbo, though measures are also being taken to revive tourism.

The local authorities required scenic attractions to limit the number of visitors to less than 30 percent of their daily maximum capacity during the holiday.

Visitors were also required to have their temperatures taken and show green health QR codes, which indicate they have little possibility of being infected with the disease.

Ningbo is home to numerous renowned scenic attractions including two national 5A scenic attractions (the highest level in the nation's classification for scenic) – Xikou Scenic Spot and Tianyi Pavilion-Moon Lake Scenic Spot.
