A total of 20 enterprises from Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, are currently attending an online Chinese brands expo.

The enterprises primarily specialize in textiles, garments, internet marketing, and the manufacture of epidemic prevention supplies.

The expo, which was launched on May 10, is attended by enterprises from 37 cities across China and is part of a series of activities in celebration of the 2020 China Brand Day.

The expo, now in its third year, is being held online for the first time and is the first national economic and trade activity the nation has held since the onset of the COVID-2019 pandemic.

It is organized by the National Development and Reform Commission, China's top economic planner, as well as the ministries of commerce, agriculture and rural affairs and the Shanghai municipal government.

In recent years, Ningbo has performed strongly in terms of the development of new brands.

Official statistics show that a total of 280,000 trademarks were registered in Ningbo in 2019, an increase of 25.6 percent over the previous year. That same year, six local trademarks were recognized as "well-known" Chinese trademarks, bringing the total number of such trademarks in the city to 96.

A senior official from the Ningbo municipal development and reform commission said that same basic measures of a brand's success include popularity, reputation, loyalty, and brand association, adding that the city aims to use the national exhibition platform to help local enterprises expand their market presence and brand recognition.

One participating company from Ningbo is Snowwolf, a premium clothing brand.

Cao Yun, general manager of the company, said that the company's protective clothing for civilian use has been selling well in places such as the United States, Japan, and the Middle East.

Chen Jijun, marketing manager of MedicalSystem Co Ltd, said Ningbo has a strong brand presence in biomedicine, as evidenced by the city's strong sales of biomedicine products amid the epidemic through online contacts.
