A container ship loaded with epidemic prevention supplies from the Ningbo Zhoushan Port arrived in Osaka, Japan on May 25, according to local media reports.

This is the first express shipping route from Ningbo to Osaka.

The demand for epidemic prevention and medical supplies has skyrocketed around the world due to the COVID-2019 pandemic. However, sharply reduced international flights have presented a problem for companies looking to ship their goods, as many of them either cannot ship their goods or face higher charges.

Zhejiang Seaport Co Ltd, in partnership with China Post, launched the new express shipping route in an effort to overcome this problem.

Express delivery by sea is still rare in China, as the huge variety of goods and strict timing requirements make it difficult in terms of custom clearance and international shipping.

However, the new shipping channel is expected to greatly reduce the cost of international express shipping and alleviate difficulties caused by a lack of available flights, according to an employee at the Zhejiang branch of China Post.

He also revealed that the company plans to open express shipping routes to North America in the near future.
