Ningbo Chenghuang Temple reopened to the public recently after undergoing long-term renovations.

The temple, situated in the downtown area of Ningbo, is the largest and most well-preserved temple of its kind in eastern Zhejiang province and has been listed as a cultural unit under municipal protection.

The temple was built in 1371, during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). After its completion, it was repeatedly exposed to fire. The existing temple was rebuilt in the Guangxu tenth year in the Qing Dynasty (1884). The temple was not only the most popular place for people to pray for peace, but also a venue to showcase folk beliefs and folk culture.

Renovations on the temple started in October 2018 after feedback from the public expressing a wish to restore the temple to its 1884 form.

The temple has now reopened to visitors free of charge. It is open from 8:00 am to 17:00 pm. Visitors must make reservations ahead of time, either by dialing 0574-87237368 or through the WeChat account: haishutourism.
