Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province ranked 16th nationwide in terms of digital urban governance, a recent report showed.

Jointly released by China Economic Information Service, the China Information Association, and the China Urban Planning and Design Institute, the report evaluated the digital governance level of the top 100 cities in the country in terms of economic output in 2019 from the perspectives of digital infrastructure, digital administrative services, digital public services, as well as digital life services.

Hangzhou, provincial capital of Zhejiang, topped the ranking, followed by Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, Suzhou, Dongguan, and Xi'an.

The report also showed that the digital governance level of the Yangtze River Delta, a region encompassing Shanghai, as well as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces, is significantly higher than that of the whole country. Of the top 15 cities on the list, seven were from the delta.

In recent years, Ningbo has made strides in the digitalization of its urban governance.

In the first half of this year, online registration for kindergarten and compulsory education in the city had been basically realized.

At the exit of Ningbo Railway Station, residents returning from a business trip are able to print or obtain information like personal social security, as well as provident fund and tax records after placing their identity cards on the self-service terminal equipment for verification.

According to a five-year development plan rolled out by the local authorities, the added value of the digital economy in the city is projected to reach 700 million yuan ($101.45 million), accounting for more than 45 percent of its GDP by 2022.
