A freight train loaded with two LCLs (less-than-container loads) from Chongqing arrived at the Ningbo Zhoushan port on Aug 22.

This is the first time the port has offered LCL services, which allows multiple customers within the city to share the same container, reducing logistics costs.

Since the launch of the freight train services between Chongqing and Ningbo, an increasing number of goods from Chongqing have been transported overseas via a sea-rail combined transport model.

The goods from Chongqing are first shipped by rail to Ningbo, and then transported overseas by sea, and vice versa. As of Aug 22, a total of 16,000 containers had been transported between via the sea-rail combined transport model, an increase of more than 200 percent year-on-year.

From January to July, the cargo throughput of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port stood at 679.31 million metric tons, representing a yearly uptick of 3.5 percent, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Transport.

It also handled 15.96 million containers over the seven-month period, a decline of 2.8 percent.

In July alone, the port handled 110.42 million tons of cargo and 2.71 million containers, up by 12.1 percent and 7.8 percent, respectively.
