The Ningbo Research Institute of Northwestern Polytechnical University was put into operation on Aug 27, according to local media reports.

The institute, jointly funded by the Ningbo Municipal People's Government and Northwestern Polytechnical University, was inaugurated in September last year.

The research organ is composed of five technical research centers focusing on such fields as aerospace, electronic information, unmanned navigation, intelligent chips, satellites and big data applications. 

It currently employs more than 70 nationally-renowned experts and scholars and is performing cutting-edge research in many key technology fields, such as flexible electronic luminescence materials and devices, special polymer films, and big data applications. 

At the opening ceremony, a postdoctoral workstation affiliated to the research institute was also inaugurated. 

Zheng Shanjie, secretary of the CPC Ningbo Municipal Committee, and Zhang Wei, Party chief of Northwestern Polytechnical University, attended the ceremony. 

Zheng expressed hope that the institute will facilitate the industrialization of innovative achievements by deepening cooperation with high-tech enterprises in Ningbo and Zhejiang, helping to improve the competiveness and modernization level of the nation's industrial chain.
