Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province is set to kick off a week-long event meant to attract more global talent to the city, according to a government press conference held on Sept 17.

The 2020 Ningbo Talent, Science and Technology Week, slated to begin in Sept 18, is part of the city's recruitment initiative and will feature a series of activities such as exhibitions, job fairs, matchmaking conferences, and startup contests.

This year's event will highlight the city's active role in facilitating the sharing of talent throughout the Yangtze River Delta, a region encompassing the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui, as well as Shanghai municipality.

The city will also unveil an upgraded recruitment initiative, formerly known as the 3315 Series Plan, which will lower requirements for talent, adopt a more flexible recognition system, and focus more on recruiting young talent.

Ningbo has made significant progress in expanding its talent pool in recent years, helping fuel its vibrant economy.

A total of 537,000 people moved to the city in 2018 and 2019, a number equivalent to the permanent resident population of the city's Xiangshan county. In 2019 alone, the figure stood at 340,000, ranking fourth nationwide, said Huang Rongcheng, deputy head of the talent office of the CPC Ningbo Municipal Committee.

Last year, 137,000 college graduates came to work in the city, up 65.2 percent from the previous year. The number and growth rate were both record highs.

The satisfaction rate among college students who come to work in the city is among the highest of any major city in the nation, according to surveys by third-party institutions such as human resource service provider zhaopin.com and Mycos Research Institute.

There are currently 23 academicians from home and abroad working full time in Ningbo, according to official data.
