A government delegation headed by Qiu Dongyao, mayor of Ningbo, embarked on a tour to Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, Guizhou province on Sept 21.

Ningbo was paired with Qianxinan under the "pairing assistance" program launched by the central government, which requires more prosperous provinces and municipalities in East China to lend support to less developed regions of the country.

Qianxinan has made remarkable strides in poverty relief in recent years. From 2016 to 2019, a total of 435,400 poor people as well as four counties and cities in the region were lifted out of poverty, and the number of impoverished families was reduced to 12,306.

During the visit, Qiu congratulated Qianxinan for its achievement in poverty alleviation, and pledged that Ningbo will strengthen ties with the prefecture in terms of industrial coordination, consumption and labor cooperation so as to help it shed poverty and achieve prosperity.

For Qianxinan's part, Liu Wenxin, Party chief of the prefecture, expressed gratitude to Ningbo for its long-term assistance over the years, saying with the support of Ningbo, the prefecture has made steady progress in poverty relief while battling the COVID-19 pandemic this year.

He expressed hope that the two places can cement links and Qianxinan can eliminate poverty as scheduled.

The delegation also visited cadres and professionals sent from Ningbo to Qianxinan to offer support in poverty alleviation.

Official data show the city has also sent a total of 123 cadres and about 20,000 professionals to Qianxinan to offer support in education, medicine, and agriculture over the past 24 years.
