A series of light shows will be held in several venues throughout Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, to mark this year's National Day on Oct 1, which coincides with Mid-Autumn Festival on the 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese lunar calendar.

One of the main venues will be Sanjiangkou, a commercial block in downtown Ningbo.

A Mid-Autumn Festival-themed light show is scheduled to be held on the block from 18:00 pm to 22:00 pm on Oct 1 and 2. A show revolving round National Day will also be held from Sept 30 to Oct 8.

The former event will recreate scenes described in a poem by Zhang Jiuling, a Chinese poet from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). During the show, the moon will rise slowly from the sea, hanging like a silver plate in the night sky, with its light spreading gently over the sea. Then all kinds of colorful autumn flowers will come into full bloom.

Sun Liang, an official at the Ningbo municipal facilities research institute, said that the show will feature traditional customs such as admiring the moon and eating moon cakes.

Meanwhile, the National Day show will showcase China's vast territory and rich culture. Accompanied by the song "I love you, China", it will depict various landforms from across the country, including mountains, rivers, and grasslands. A large variety of traditional elements, such as calligraphy, martial arts, and the Great Wall, will also be featured.

In addition to Sanjiangkou, light shows will also be held in the districts of Yinzhou, Zhenhai, and Beilun during the eight-day National Day holiday.
