Two places shortlisted as provincial pilot zones for digital economy

Ningbo's Yinzhou district and Yuyao city were recently shortlisted as provincial pilot zones for the innovative development of the digital economy.

The software sector in Yinzhou district has witnessed robust growth in recent years. Last year, the revenue of the software sector in the district amounted to 25.2 billion yuan ($3.87 billion), accounting for nearly one third of the city's total, more than any other administrative area in the city. This year, the figure is expected to exceed 30 billion yuan.

The district has been actively developing sectors including big data, artificial intelligence and industrial internet. To date, a total of 1,704 5G base stations have been installed in Yinzhou, with the district's downtown area achieving complete coverage. 

Yinzhou, which is a national insurance demonstration zone, has also been promoting the application of fintech.

Meanwhile, the digital economy in Yuyao, a county-level city in Ningbo, has been developing rapidly.

Official data shows that the added value of the digital economy in the city totaled 11.76 billion yuan in 2019, up 16.8 percent year-on-year, accounting for 10.1 percent of its total economic output.

In 2019, the total output value of the software industry in Ningbo expanded 26.9 percent to 7.29 billion yuan. As of last year, there were 143 enterprises in the city engaged in the robot and intelligent equipment sector. These enterprises had a combined annual business income of over 13 billion yuan.
