Every January, residents from Du'ao village in Ningbo's Haishu district would make niangao, or glutinous rice cakes.
According to a local resident surnamed Xu, more than 500 families in the village would bring their own rice flour and process them into rice cakes at a designated place. This custom has been observed for nearly 20 years.
"We turn about 3,000 kilograms of rice flour into cakes every day from Jan 5 to the end of the month," Xu said.
