East China's Zhejiang province saw its culture and tourism industries both surpass 1 trillion yuan ($154.6 billion) in annual revenue during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism revealed on Feb 2.

Over the past five years, Zhejiang constructed eight national-level demonstration zones for all-for-one tourism, more than any other Chinese provincial-level region.

Between 2016 and 2019, the province's culture and tourism industries posted an average annual growth rates of 12.6 percent and 11.2 percent, respectively, in value-added, both of which were higher than the province's GDP growth rate (9.5 percent).

Despite being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, the province's culture and tourism sectors steadily resumed operations last year, and since last September had basically returned to the state they were in in the same period in 2019.

The Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism also announced that Zhejiang will invest 1 trillion yuan into major infrastructure projects in its culture and tourism sectors over the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) period.
