Zhejiang sees robust consumption during Spring Festival holiday

East China's Zhejiang province saw strong consumption both in terms of e-commerce and at brick-and-mortar stores during the Spring Festival holiday, which ran from Feb 11 to 17, according to statistics from the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce.

Between Jan 20 and Feb 18, the department launched a sales promotion campaign themed around "buying Zhejiang-made Lunar New Year groceries online", which consisted of 268 promotional events and 4,436 commercial livestreams, as well as 10-billion-yuan ($1.55 billion) in shopping coupons being distributed across the province.

The campaign resulted in 271 billion yuan in online sales, of which 15 billion yuan were spent on life necessities.

According to government statistics, key businesses in eight key sectors witnessed a 201.6 percent year-on-year growth in foot traffic and a 126 percent year-on-year increase in turnover over the seven-day holiday. Year-on-year revenue growth in the province's accommodation sector was 45.1 percent, while growth in the dining sector was 519.5 percent.
