Yang Xubiao, a member of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC, suggested designating Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province as a national base for the transfer and commercialization of major scientific and technological innovations in the new materials sector.

Yang made the suggestion in his proposal to the top political advisory body during its annual session, which is currently underway in Beijing.

New materials are the foundation of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation in the world, according to Yang.

As a national manufacturing hub, Ningbo presently has more than 20 high-profile research organs in the new materials sector such as the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The political adviser pointed out that selecting Ningbo as a destination for the transfer and commercialization of major scientific and technological innovations in the new materials sector will further inject vitality to the sector's growth.

Yang also called for the construction of national level innovation organs in Ningbo to develop new materials including marine anticorrosion materials, petroleum-based clean energy materials and extreme environment materials.

Ningbo's strengths in market vitality and private capital make it an ideal national base, he said.

He pointed out that the city had already been designated a national pilot city for the transfer and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements in 2016.
