Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province recently unveiled a plan to promote its internationalization during the 14th Five-Year-Plan (2021-25) period.

According to the plan, efforts will be made to upgrade the city's transportation connectivity, trade range, industrial competence, cultural influence and profile in the international arena.

In the five years, the city aims to become a demonstration city showcasing the oriental civilization, a global leisure and tourism destination and a host venue for high-profile international events.

Specifically, local authorities plan to hold 40 international conferences and exhibitions and 10 global sporting events annually.

As for transportation, Ningbo Zhoushan Port looks to retain its laurel as the world's busiest port with cargo throughput exceeding 1.3 billion metric tons by 2025.

Its container throughput is also targeted to surpass 35 million TEUs, ranking among the top three in the world.

Meanwhile, the city aims to raise the passenger throughput of the Ningbo Lishe International Airport to above 20 million people and increase the cargo throughput to over 300,000 tons.

The added value of the high-tech manufacturing industry should account for 14 percent of the total industrial added value in the city by 2025, according to the plan.

A scheme released by the local government on March 3 states that Ningbo plans to lift its GDP to 1.7 trillion yuan ($261.54 billion) and increase its urbanization rate to 80 percent by 2025.

The city's gross domestic product, per capita GDP and per capita disposable income are expected to be double the figures from 2020.
