Eleven public libraries from Ningbo recently won provincial recognition for their high-quality services, according to local media.

The 11 libraries were rated as "satisfactory libraries" in a service evaluation campaign launched by East China's Zhejiang province. Ningbo has the most "satisfactory libraries" in the province.

A total of 70 libraries across Zhejiang won the honor.

Adults in Ningbo read an average of 5.25 paper books in 2020, up from 4.99 books a year earlier, according to a survey released by the China Academy of Press and Publication in late April.

The survey found that adults in the city were highly interested in reading activities, with more than 70 percent of the people surveyed expressing hope that local authorities would hold more reading activities and festivals.

Ningbo is the first city in Zhejiang to have a legislation that promotes reading.
